Scout S. J. Aspinall – the first King’s Scout 1910 and one of six other King’s Scouts from the 1st Gympie Scout Troop who won the King’s Colours in 1911 and 1912. Their Troop became the first King’s Troop in Australia. His father became the first King’s Scoutmaster.

The original King’s Colours presented to the 1st Gympie Scout Troop for the years 1911 and 1912. A South Australian Scout Troop then won the Colours in 1913 followed by a Victorian Troop after WW1. The original silk flag disintegrated in the southern Australian climate and was never replaced. The awarding of the King’s Colours ceased c.1922-1925.

Scout J. L. Hutchinson – a King’s Scout of the 1st Gympie Scout Troop – the first King’s Troop in Australia. He was also the King’s Troop bugler. The Gympie Scouting Hall of Memories holds his original copper and brass bugle.

The Special Fundraising Appeal No. 1.

With the opening of the interim Gympie Regional Centennial Scouting Hall of Memories project in November 2005, a special appeal was launched to have an exact replica of the historic King’s Colours commissioned. With the assistance of Guild researchers from South Australia and New Zealand, the full details and colour descriptions of the original flag were completed. For the appeal to be successful, it was announced that 20 special donors were required – each donor contributing $200 each so that the cost of replicating the King’s Colours could be achieved.
To date, we have 12 donors. This leaves just eight (8) vacancies. These vacancies are still open. Persons willing to become part of history and to be recognised as an official donor can contact the Gympie Hall of Memories Executive direct.

The Special Fundraising Appeal No. 2.

A second appeal is now under way to raise $1500 to provide a special display case to house the King’s Colours replica to protect it from the Queensland climatic conditions. This new special appeal requires 15 donors willing to contribute $100 each so that the target can be reached. Persons willing to become part of history and recognised as an official donor can contact the Gympie Hall of Memories Executive direct.
